For Parents

  • Dear Parents,

This year, all students will be given a device that the students will be responsible for taking and bringing to school daily. That being said, we ask that you follow these steps to ensure that your child receives the opportunity to get a device checked out to them within the first 2 weeks of school.

To get started follow these quick steps.

Step 1: Watch the provided HCISD financial obligation video below with your child.

Step 2: Submit the online Device Checkout Agreement by clicking the button below.

For any questions or concerns please feel free to contact the school.

    Thank you,

    Gutierrez Middle School

  • At Gutierrez Middle School we find that it is essential to ensure students and teachers are able to enjoy the instructional setting by ensuring that cell phones do not become a distraction from learning.

    RULES:

    1. Cell phone use is prohibited throughout the school.
    2. During the instructional day, cell phones must remain out of sight and in silent mode.
    3. Cell phones must be placed and remain in backpacks at all times.
    4. If students need to place an emergency phone call during the day, they should request to go to the main office to use an office phone.
    5. Students may be subject to disciplinary action if their use of their cell phone disrupts the school’s educational environment. Examples of this include, but are not limited to: cheating, bullying, harassment, unlawful recording or photographing, and violating other school rules.
    6. The school and its staff are not responsible for any damage to or theft of a student’s cell phone. Students must properly secure and take care of their own phones.

If students violate the school’s cell phone policy, the following may occur: (Before being allowed to pick up their phone at the end of the day, a staff member will discuss and review the cell phone policy with the parent and student.)

    • First offense: The student’s cell phone will be confiscated and held in the main office. The student’s parents will be contacted and informed of the refusal to follow the school’s cell phone policy. The cell phone will only be released to the parent at the end of the school day.
      • Any offense after the first: The student’s cell phone will be confiscated and held in the main office until the end of the school day. The student’s parents will be contacted and informed of the refusal to follow the school’s cell phone policy. The cell phone will only be released to the parent after a $15 confiscation fee has been paid. Students may be subject to further consequences.

**The administration reserves the right to adjust these consequences on a case-by-case basis if needed. For example, extreme behaviors that break the law or engage in bullying or harassment of other students may result in suspension.
